HEROES (FOREVER AND EVER) Heroes illustrates the imaginary relationship which develops between individuals and their "idols", coming from show business, sport, music, etc. I wanted to work in a psychological way, but also material, as this relationship is fed by the daily production of icons. The relation presents a strong motivation, yet it is a one-way relationship: "us" in the prose of a relaxed or busy everyday life; "them",the idols, the poetic fixation of their "best face"... (as the conception binding Uncle Scrooge to the white collar, Tom Selleck to the domestic sensuality, Veronica Ciccone to those people who are perpetually immersed in glossy covers, doesn't allow different combinations or crossbreeds) There is just one possibility when they break into our private life, with their public life -- on the walls, in the bathrooms, on a t-shirt or in the continuity of the TV program-- when our desire of identification succeeds in becoming a "communion", even if it's an imaginary one, in the game of the mise-en-abîme. Now also our private lives, like theirs, become unknowable-- both hidden behind a same public life together: us and them. Leo Margot Robby & Bruce Tom Valentino, our/your idols who give voice to us/you and who will follow us/you forever and without knowing it, maybe. Or maybe not, like the Heroes of my public character, David Bowie singing: "We could be heroes, forever and ever". |
