CLOTHES THAT TRAVEL Inspired by her grandmother's collection of old luggage labels from the 50s and 60s, Tamar did lots of research on when these labels were first designed and found herself in the Edwardian era of the beginning of the 20th century. She focused on the process of packing and the intimate ceremony a woman goes through when she stands in front of her wardrobe to decide which garments will go travelling with her. The cuts of her outfits reflect the feeling of many clothes stacked or hanging. This led to surprising layers: a jacket worn as a skirt, tailored sleeves coming out of shoulder blades and a coat which looks as if the lady wore it with the hanger still inside. Tamar also added elements taken from hardware on suitcases, handles, studs, hinges and clasps, and here and there are references to the luggage labels from which her inspiration was drawn. |
