KALEIDOSCOPE ALCHEMY "El Dia de Los Muertos" is the Mexican way of celebrating Halloween, the day of the dead. The idea is to picture death in a silly way, to mock it and laugh at it in order to feel less frightened. This was not Ann's only inspiration: she was inspired also by artist Hew Lock and his colourful works made of flowers, toy guns and skulls. The construction of the clothes looks at traditional Mexican and 1920s European clothes, and even jewellery finds a space, integrated inside the outfits in a very subtle and almost invisible way. The overall look is also influenced by Mexican paintress Frida Kahlo. All these elements are put together to give a strong ethnic but also modern look. |
