Concept
   LES CHEVALS DE MIDI
Fellini's "Giulietta degli Spiriti" is the inspiration for Karen's work. In the film, Giulietta is escaping reality by living in a fantasy world of her own. When Karen was 9 years old she lived in Beirut, a city in the midst of a civil war. Her father had refused to leave the country in fear of leaving everything they had behind. Karen was too young to object and too innocent to realize the horror that was about to take place outside the door of her home. When the bombing started, all she could do was close her eyes and force herself to escape from reality by dreaming of the gardens in her house in the mountains. She would dream of being just like Mary Poppins, able to fly away to her beautiful world where carousels run free.
