FINAL WORDS - Interviews with the ITS#FOUR finalists
July 12, 2005
| Well the moment has arrived? as you are reading this, ITS#FOUR has begun, the fourth generation of fashion finalists has already arrived in Trieste, they have already unpacked their collections, some travelling all the way from Australia. By now the finalists have already shown their collections to the catwalk show director, and perhaps, at this moment, as you are reading this, they could be standing in front of the jury, talking about the concept of their collection. A lot has happened to have brought these 24 people together, during the days here friendships are formed, and some people meet who perhaps normally would never have the chance. So what are they like? What would you like to know if you had little time to get to know someone? What would you, reader, like to know about these interesting people? Well the EVE'rs could probably tell you something but we figured we'd leave it up them to do it, and give them a head start on getting to know each other? So here is an interview of the ITS#FOUR finalists, no, really they are interviewing each other. What can you tell about a person by the answers they give? And the questions they ask? Incredible and entertaining phone calls were made, starting with Marcus, who gave 2 questions to ask the next finalist , chosen pretty much at random, who was Lihi. Lihi answered Marcus's questions , asked by us, and then gave us two questions to ask the next finalist. Neelanjan gave us the answers to Lihi's questions, supplied us with two more questions, and so on, well, you get the idea? here goes: MARCUS: What do you dream of most often? LIHI: Family and closest friends. I have very realistic dreams, full of colour. I remember all my dreams. I have 3 or 4 a night. MARCUS: If you were a colour what would you be? LIHI: White. Because white is the most simple and the most complicated colour. When I see things clearly I see them white. White is the colour of the beach, pure against tan skin. ---------------------------------------------------------------- LIHI: If you could chose to be a famous celebrity, who would you be and why? MIE: Mick Jagger- because I think he's had a very interesting life. LIHI: If you could choose to be born in another country?real or imaginary?where would it be? MIE: the UK ---------------------------------------------------------------- MIE: What is your favourite love song? MOMOKO: "Just The Way You Are" by Billy Joel (writer's note: she sang that one to me on the phone cause she didn't know the title?) MIE: What is the first you are going to do when you return from Trieste? MOMOKO: I'm going to have a party with all the people who have helped me with my collection. ---------------------------------------------------------------- MOMOKO: If you don't choose to be a designer what would you be? JENNIFER: a painter or a sculptor ... But maybe also someone active to defend human rights (....we can do that like ?designer by another way...) MOMOKO: What kind of child were you? JENNIFER: a little girl very hard to please. ---------------------------------------------------------------- JENNIFER: What kind of reflection is seen in clothing from the place where they made it? LAURA: In Japan. Tokyo, the city and combination of nature and big city life. JENNIFER: When you design, do you make sketches or do you create directly with fabric? LAURA: Both! One hand does one thing, and the other does the other? or maybe I'm more of a fabric person. ---------------------------------------------------------------- LAURA: What is the most interesting thing in your life at this moment? HAIZHEN: I got a job! Because that's the hardest part. Even though you graduate, it's not always easy to find a job. And, ITS#FOUR. This is a chance to show my collection, I didn't show it at school. LAURA: If you didn't have the possibility to do fashion, what would you do? HAIZHEN: I want to be an actor! ---------------------------------------------------------------- HAIZHEN: What are you going to do after this competition? MARGA: I'm going to Venice. HAIZHEN: After years of school, work, etc NOW where do you see yourself, as compared to before? MARGA: I feel I have more control over my time and over what I actually want. School can be restrictive, because you must comply to the demands of the school. I am happy that I am really responsible for my own fate, and I'm proud to have realised this?to have reached this goal. ---------------------------------------------------------------- MARGA: How do you feel in the fashion world so far? What are your joys and fears? ERIKKA: I feel good and comfortable! And I have something new to add. I have more joys than fears. I love almost everything abut the fashion world. My fear is the injustice that exists. But I guess that exists everywhere, not only in the fashion world. MARGA: What is the best experience you've had in the last 6 months? Why was this so meaningful? ERIKKA: That I made it the ITS#FOUR finals! Because it was my main goal. There were lots of signs that I was meant to come? ---------------------------------------------------------------- ERIKKA: If you were to change anything about your collection, what would it be? RYO: I have another 20 days, and I if I start to think about it , I'll start changing it again? ! If I could change something, it would be the weather here in London. Lately it's been strangely really sunny and beautiful and hot in London, and I'm stuck inside working! ERIKKA: What do you feel like you can contribute to the fashion world as it is know? RYO: People want to make something new, but instead we need to make fundamental changes in the fashion system. Tiny changes in the system begin to make huge differences. This is the difference between art and design. Art is complete, it doesn't change, design in one half and the consumer changes it. Design doesn't finish with the designer, it's a joint process between the wearer and the designer. ---------------------------------------------------------------- RYO: Do you work at night or in the morning? And when do you work better? ANNA: At night. I work better at night. RYO: How many hours a night do you sleep? ANNA: 6 or 5 hours a night. ---------------------------------------------------------------- ANNA: Who would you love to dress? CORINA: I would dress a rock star?maybe El Bicho. ANNA: What CD (s) are you listening to at the moment? CORINA: Catpower, El Bicho and Kings of Convenience. |

CORINA: What is the colour of your mood lately? CHRISTOPHER: Blue. CORINA: With whom /for whom would you like to work? CHRISTOPHER: With anyone I respect ---------------------------------------------------------------- CHRISTOPHER: What is your astrological sign? MARY-LOU: Leo CHRISTOPHER: What is your favourite colour? MARY-LOU: Black. But it's not a colour, it's actually all the colours in the world put together. ---------------------------------------------------------------- MARY-LOU: What are you doing to avoid the realisation of your nightmares? CHRISTOPH: I don't have nightmares. MARY-LOU: What are you doing to make your dreams come true? CHRISTOPH: Believing in it! And continuing to do so. ---------------------------------------------------------------- CHRISTOPH: What is a secret that you've never told your brother or sister? LUCJA: I don't know! I think my sister knows everything about me! CHRISTOPH: The place you normally wouldn't show to anybody? Where is it and what 's it like? LUCJA: It's in the mountains near my home (about 200 km from Krakow, Poland) . It's got a very beautiful view. ---------------------------------------------------------------- LUCJA: What is the place where you've never been and would like to go? LUKE: Germany. LUCJA: Do you prefer the mountains or the sea? LUKE: The sea. ---------------------------------------------------------------- LUKE: What's your favourite CD? ELI: Goatbed. LUKE: What's your favourite piece of clothing? ELI: My zebra- print tracksuit that I made with the leftover fabric from my collection. ---------------------------------------------------------------- ELI: What do you do in the evenings, or free time? where do you go out? What are your hobbies? NEELANJAN: I really love sports. I am a sports freak. I like to go swimming in the evening or play tennis or soccer. ELI: What's your favourite movie? NEELANJAN: The Godfather. ---------------------------------------------------------------- NEELANJAN: How does your design process start? How does it happen? CAROLINE: By wondering? by having a fascination and by being annoyed by something. Mostly by researching something?lots of observation to get ideas and different feels?both theory and visual. NEELANJAN: What is the fashion scenario in your country? What are the things the government is doing to improve and grow every year? (I'd like to use the input to apply to the fashion industry in India) CAROLINE: The Danish government does a lot of work with design. The politics in this country allow the raising of money for research. The government is aware that it could be a big income source for Denmark as well, and so they invest money into the development of design. ---------------------------------------------------------------- CAROLINE: Do you see that fashion necessarily has to be the way to earn your money, or is fashion just the media that you are using right now? Just fashion or other design as well? DAVID: I think it's something that I want to do for a while?but who knows about tomorrow? As long as fashion wants me I want to be with fashion. I am absolutely interested in other design as well?fashion design alone is just boring. CAROLINE: Would your title as fashion designer in a company be more manual work (arts&crafts, making designs), or as an organiser/manager , beginning and completing projects, but assigning some of the work to others? DAVID: You have to have both. When you are starting off you have enough time to do everything by hand but as things grow you simply can't. The key to being a good designer is to have a full understanding of both factors. ---------------------------------------------------------------- DAVID: Who would you take to a desert island? LOUBNA: My beloved. DAVID: What do you think is ugly about fashion? LOUBNA: Money without talent. ---------------------------------------------------------------- LOUBNA: Would you wear what you have designed? NAOMI: I do LOUBNA: If you weren't a fashion designer, what would you be doing? NAOMI: A Tolymar, it's a hairdesser for animals. ---------------------------------------------------------------- NAOMI: What are you going to wear for ITS#FOUR? MASHA: It will be my usual clothes, so it helps me to be natural and not worry. My lovely black shoes, gray pants! NAOMI: Are you going to bring a swimming costume? MASHA: Yes of course, because i'll be in Trieste longer that all the finalists! (and there is a great sea in the photos) ---------------------------------------------------------------- MASHA: Would you like to visit Russia? MARCUS: Yes I'd love to. In particular, Siberia. I've always had a dream to go there. I'm fascinated with the wide open Russian landscape. I'm a big nature fan. I I took Russian in college so I speak a little bit. MASHA What is your favorite Italian movie? MARCUS: Hmmm, it's been a while since I watched an Italian movie, oh yeah, Il Postino, definetely! |
