From ITS#PHOTO to Fabrica, short diary about a real-world experience.

March 30, 2006

I was accepted to attend the ITS#FOUR photo competition about this time last year. I didn't win the contest but it still ended up being an amazing opportunity for me. One of the jurors was a part of Fabrica, a sponsored "factory" of artists by the United Colors of Benetton. I was invited to attend a two-week trial period in the Photo department.

I arrived on a Monday afternoon in late January and I was immediately given a tour of the entire place. There are six departments all specializing in different artistic talents. The other kids in my department were from all over the world. There was no culture shock because there was such a mix of people that I felt right at home. It also helped that everyone spoke English. I was told that I would shoot pictures over the next 2 weeks that could be whatever I wanted.

The next day Enrico Bossan, the photo department head, asked me if I'd like to shoot portraits of a group of musicians that will be performing soon. I took him up on his offer:

Overall my experience at Fabrica was amazing. I've been invited to come back in September for a yearlong stay and I can't wait to work with all of these extremely talented people. You can find more information about Reed at his personal website www.reedyoung.com
