DJs as cooks to add some secrets ingredients to the yummy fashion design menu.

July 10, 2006

It is not so easy to choose which songs might be used as soundtrack of a fashion show; rather it actually depends on which show are you going to find the music for.Perhaps for other fashion shows some housey-dance vibes are probably enough to keep the ears busy and the smile on for the normal fifteen minutes length of a collection; at ITS#FIVE fashion show 21collections will walk down the catwalk, proposing their creativity and their points of view. Different inspirations melt one into the other and so the music has to follow; you cannot count on a too flat atmosphere, but have the pleasure to give the viewer an upside down twist of vibrations, always focusing on the idea that the collections are the main part of the show and music is this time at their service.

Long nights shared by part of ITS#FIVE team and Electrosacher cakebeat collective djs slowly defined the magic receipt people is going to taste on the music side on the night of July 14th.
To start toughly "Banquet (phono disco edit)" from the great Bloc Party Remixes album will give a first shot to the crowd, and while the first outfits will appear on the catwalk probably feet in the audience will (almost) politely move...

Then a fluid mood will take the lead...:, take off will be on the "Jet" with Ellen Allien and Apparat on the control panel; then "Peacock tail" by Boards of Canada and "Granfathered" by Nathan Fake will keep the bubble away from bursting. Percussions will appear suddenly with On-Off "Bush Fukka" leaving space to the anthemic notes of "69 Police" served by David Holmes.(someone remembers it on a movie soundtrack?...the answer is below...)*
Change of mood again, it's The Books' turn with their "Animated description of Mr.Maps" leaving space then to the great Queen of Japan re-interpretation of a disco/rock hymn "I was made for loving you" originally by Kiss Again the rhythm gets square and sharpened with Ada who guides us through her "Maps".
The final three form an emotional climax, with the "Black shoes" wore by Felix Laband the Xiu-Xiu showing a "Muppet face" and the "Bumblechord" of Nathan Fake who shows up again to close the tracklist.

Then last year's winner, Marcus Wilmont has chosen the music for his own collection; the choice of Nick Cave and "Red right hand" is definitely appreciated.
Then it's time for prize giving, dinner and finally the moment to dance the pressure away with the party, were everybody will have his own reason to celebrate.
And....yes, there will be space for Architecture in Helsinki "It's five" song....
We cannot let it out!!
