ITS#THREE finalists
April 20, 2004
FUCK FASHION!..we looked for beauty!
"Ode to all ye who entered ITS#THREE"
Dear lovely boys and girls out there who made such efforts to send us your projects across the seven seas to our hidden office at piazza Venezia, 1 - THANK YOU. We couldn't be prouder of all the precious treasure we received. You made us chuckle and roar out loud, warmed the cockles of our hearts and touched us with some tear wrenching stories.
Perhaps you are wondering what happened to your package from the moment you handed it over to the post office, perhaps not but we are going to tell you anyway. Well of course nearly all the packages came flooding on the 31st March right on the deadline. Upon their arrival they were opened, placed in a folder and checked to see if they contained all the compulsory material (Rachel says thank you, she got very excited by all the stamps she could add to her collection). Then they were viewed, not once, twice, thrice but four or five times!! Hundreds and hundreds of projects to look at over and over again in only three weeks!! All in preparation for the 19-20th April when a preselection jury gathered in Trieste to select the ITS#THREE finalists. Wilbert Das - Creative Director of Diesel, Valentina Maggi & Elisabeth Dieupart - Floriane de St. Pierre, Maria Luisa Poumaillou - Maria Luisa Boutique, Barbara Franchin - Director & Project Supervisor of EVE/ITS#THREE and Deanna Ferretti - Maglieria Miss Deanna, (who will be joined by Ennio Capasa - Costume National, Raf Simons - Fashion designer and David Shah - Textile View, among others, for the finals to be held 15-17th July) gathered to decide the fate of 23 lucky fashion designers.
This is what we call the third stage of ITS#. There are actually five stages, starting with the LAUNCH, SCOUTING TOUR, PRESELECTIONS, THE EVENT and last SEARCH for financial backing for the next ITS#.
We looked for beauty, which is of course in the eye of the beholder and chose the finalists. Who can say if we made the right or wrong choices? At times it was frustrating when faced with beautifully illustrated portfolios with sketches that left us with our mouths open that alas did NOT contain one single photo of previous or current work, a fantastic artist may not be capable to create what they draw or they could been able to realise their sketches to perfection. If you do not show us what you can do then we'll never know how great you are...
Let me put any scandalous claims to rest that the Ingeo™ project was a last minute request to rest. The regulations for ITS#THREE went online 15th January and clearly stated the Ingeo (TM) project was compulsory. A warning was put online at a later date to simply REMIND you not to forget. The two curly heads in the Schools & Contestants office never fail to answer any queries promptly and were always available to receive your phone calls with Kleenex handy for panicky tears.
Some of you cheeky monkeys are still intent on cheating by filling the jury with your mummies, boyfriends/girlfriends and other family members, shame on you!
From your choices of favourite magazines we were surprised to see that the legend of Dutch magazine and Jeunes Creatures still lives on. We loved them too but perhaps it is time to let go seeing it is nearly two years since publications closed.
We are spanking ourselves as we got rid of Best Menswear seeing as last year it seemed as if Menswear had gone out of fashion, there were so few entries. Hahahahah this year Menswear entries went up 20%.
