Remembering emotions. Preparing for new ones
October 19, 2004
What can we say...
already two months and a few weeks have gone by, but the memory is still so strong, every detail is clear, every spoken word is alive with meaning and warmth.
As the most stereotypical summer lover we try to find comfort for the lost beloved ones looking at photos over and over again.
As the less stereotypical summer lover we believe other's opinions more than our own ones; 2 examples:
"forget ideas of sniping and bitchiness, they (the competitors) have form a unified group" (Flux Magazine)
"a cocktail of emotions for a unique experience" (Collezioni Uomo)
let's go back to the summer lover stereotype, cause the magz are right, but we know better!
A mixture of emotions and things to talk about, flashes through your mind and you never know which one to grab and describe, 'cause you don't want to miss something and find yourself afterwards saying "damn, I should have spoken about that thing also!" But one has to start from somewhere, so...
One thing that really surprised everybody at the event was the organisation. With the number of things that could have gone wrong, almost none did, and apart from the EVErs, almost nobody else even noticed.
One of the problems was with the voting. All of the members of the jury wanted to be very sure that the right finalists got the right recognition. This caused discussions and some tensions that prolonged the voting session far beyond the time we had expected. We finally found a system that satisfied all, but nerves almost collapsed (ask Barbara about it?moments of pure desperation could be seen in her eyes), and we really had to run afterwards to fit everything in the time schedule!
The jury was really positively impressed. They all knew the level of commitment every finalist had put in their work and would have wanted to give a prize to them all. So part of the problems with the voting was also due to the fact they didn't want to make mistakes. They also liked the family spirit among the finalists. As if creativity and running after your dreams were terms of recognition between them so strong they couldn't but be all together encouraging each other.
Another problem happened during the prize-giving. The suspense before the revelation of the diesel award winner was broken by the entrance on the catwalk of the model with the winning outfit before knowing who the winner was. It all ended up in a laugh, but it didn't have (and it won't in the future) to happen.
Happily enough though, we have far more good things than bad to remember. The finalists were very surprised about the event. They didn't expect such a level of care and attention. We remember their eyes while passing from one interview to another. All those famous magazines truly interested in what they do! They were obviously all enthusiastic. Even more so when , at the dinner after the show, representatives of famous fashion brands were looking for them to talk about internships and jobs: they'd have a "me, really?" look in their eyes that gave us satisfaction for all the work we had done.
You can measure the success of an event when, close to the end, you realize that nobody, and you first, wants it to finish. Why do you think everyone was still there partying till 5 in the morning? Why do you think hugs and kisses and tears could be seen at the farewell lunch the day after? Because everyone was bruised in their heart in the same way. A positive bruise, that leaves a scar you're proud of afterwards.
And now what? Now it's time to start it all over again. A big success needs a big effort. This means all EVErs are at work again. Checking out the mistakes, discussing new ideas, improving old ones, using all of their energies to give you (and them) another load of emotions. There's no time to sit and relax. Prepare yourselves. We'll be looking for your help also. ITS#4 is coming.
