Imagine you were asked to make a Christmas Tree, what would you do? Probably you would buy a fir tree and make it bright with lights and typical Christmas stuff ...
Well, this is not what happened when Antonio Marras asked Yoshikazu Yamagata to realise

December 23, 2004

...maybe because Antonio told Yoshi to use Kenzo's fabrics, maybe because the Tree is "hanging" in the middle of Centre Pompidou in Paris...or maybe because Yoshi is Yoshi...

Sick of the classic Christmas Tree?

Here is his CONCEPT:

"Harmony of Centre Pompidou and KENZO's world"
The idea of the creation derives from the space in Centre Pompidou. I've been thinking about the environment, which Centre Pompidou itself creates, since I first visited to the Paris museum. The architecture has very strong impact and images, which makes me question myself how the space should be used by artists? It is very difficult to harmonize with the architecture and pieces of art. I feel that sometimes they don't harmonize with the architecture at all because the architecture - for instance, image of blue pipe the museum has - is too strong.
The Christmas tree is coming from the pipe!!!

Sick of the classic Christmas Tree?

From my thought above, I found out the idea of involving the tube (the symbol of the Pompidou) for my installation.

The pipe is extended and lots of mice, pompons, and sticks covered by patchworks. KENZO's fabrics are coming out from exit of the tube.
I am also conscious of children's eye because it is a Christmas Tree and the exhibition is for donation for children.

"I wish the tree makes people feel happy or at least smile."
