...and so did EVE's. Out and about in Trieste shooting for the new ITS#FOUR image.
January 24, 2005
This year, instead of asking someone else for the ITS#FOUR image, EVErs have decided to produce it on their own. By the way, this year there will be ITS#PHOTO, the new photographic project of ITS#FOUR sponsored by MINI, and the photo shoot for the new image was a perfect occasion for us to start learning more about photography.
The concept for the photo shoot was: "YOUR IDEA NEEDS A PLACE", meaning that all of you young designers out there need a place to show what you are capable of. Well...we are the right place!
Ready, set, go! The first ideas on the concept start being traduced on paper, phone calls are made to find the right collaborators and materials needed ... in other words, the photo shoot mission had begun!
The "photo shoot team" was so composed:
Fabio Bressan (our multimedia responsible turned in to art director of the shooting), Barbara (our chief, supervisor of the shoot), Fabrizio Bressan (me, I took care of production), Ennio de Marin (photographer), Maya (make up), Soraya Ismaili (hair styling) and Manuela (model).
The choice for the model was not an easy one. We wanted to show our model in an out-of-fashion context, with an uneasy, puzzled expression on her face as if she were saying: "what am I doing here? This place has nothing to do with fashion!" It was not a question of not having enough models to choose from. We needed the right personality, a model capable of expressing uneasiness with her face. After an accurate search during the casting, we found the right one: Manuela! She was going to be the one to appear on our posters that, we hope, will be hung in the fashion schools around the world.
The locations were proposed and discussed considering that they had to have nothing to do with fashion: impressive, strange, but most of all, with nothing reminding a fashion catwalk, to give the idea that the model is out of place. A square, a church, the seaside, a museum, a library, a train station, a shopping centre, a market-place ... all of these were stops for our team, moving from place to place on a van for two days in search of the best shots. 7 people, photographic machines, tripods, dresses, packed lunches for everyone, 4 shaped balloons, walkie-talkies, a helium cylinder and some other emergency material... all stuffed in one single van! Nope, we didn't get in the Guinness Book of Records nor did we win a prize for "best magical trick". But we made it!! On Sunday, November 21, 9 am, the "Magnificent Seven" started the "Shooting Tour". The photos you can see here are just an appetizer, shot from the backstage by Soraya during the photo shoots...
As you can see, there were a lot of great spots, and the choice of the right one (ones?) won't be easy for us.
Working in the street, with all the people around you not knowing exactly what you're doing, curious but respectful of your work, was really exciting. There were those who would dodge the lens of the camera even if we told them to pretend we were not there, and those who would pass more than once waving their hands as if they were on TV...
Not to forget the typical "Bora" in Trieste, one of the strongest and coldest possible winds there is. Try and shoot a photo outside with this kind of wind blowing strong, with a model dressed as if it were Spring, a helium inflated balloon attached to a string in her hand that has to stand straight ... I can assure you it was no easy job!! You have to think of something, and fast: a rigid support for the balloon not to wave in the wind, strong iron wire disguised to look like the balloon string ... tape, scissors, a tong ... and there you go! Even though the chosen photos will be only the inner location ones, trying to solve problems like this is essential to work out an idea you want to try in the best possible way.
We obviously can't be objective judges for our work. We're excited and positive about the results. Let us know what you think!
