A YKK education in the art of fastening
YKK wants to give visibility, support and a voice to young designers. To this aim YKK came together with the event organisers to help create ITS#ACCESSORIES.
ITS#ACCESSORIES, in partnership with YKK, is now in its third edition, confirming its position as an important international competition in the field of accessories design. It remains the only contest of its kind in the world dedicated to all classes of accessories.
Fastenings are essential components of the design process and knowledge about how they function can radically alter the shape and structure of a garment or accessory. YKK joins ITS to raise the profile of fastenings among the next generation of designers.
14-16 April 2008: a world-renowned panel of judges specifically chosen from the fields of fashion and accessories viewed a multitude of portfolios collected from all over the globe in Trieste, Italy.
14 finalists from 11 different nationalities have been selected to forge an accessory with YKK products as the focal point in their creation. They will be able to utilise YKK expertise and a global production line, which creates billions of fastenings and fastening parts per year. In addition, they can ask for technical support in the production of their shoes and bags, courtesy of Salvatore Ferragamo SPA.
YKK will also supply the fastenings for Ek Throngprasert, winner of ITS#SIX Collection of the Year, who will present his out of competition collection during the ITS#FASHION catwalk show.
The finalists' selected works will gain serious visibility and exposure in a specially created exhibition space at ITS#SEVEN. At the event there will be the chance to win prizes; Accessories Collection of the Year and The YKK Award to name but two.
With 10,000€ prize money and a professional photo shoot for the winning accessory, the YKK Award is a competition prize worth thinking seriously about. The finalists YKK inspired accessories will then feature at a number of important international fairs including; Munich Fabric Start 3rd-5th September, Moda In 16th-19th September and ModAmont 23rd-26th. September 2008.
